The County Attorney’s Office serves the public interest by representing Rosebud County and the State of Montana in criminal prosecutions, and the County’s legal business.
The County Attorney’s Office
- Prosecutes felony crimes in District Court
- Prosecutes misdemeanor crimes in Justice Court
- Prosecutes traffic offenses in Justice Court
- Prosecutes crimes committed by Juveniles in the Youth Court
- Represents the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services in District Court cases for the protection of child welfare
- Prosecutes bad checks
- The County Attorney’s Office represents Rosebud County in:
- The County’s legal business
- The County’s civil cases
- By advising the Board of County Commissioners
- By advising County offices, departments, and subdivisions
The County Attorney is prohibited from advising or representing private persons in their personal legal matters. Private persons needing legal advice or representation should consult a private attorney. This office cannot recommend private attorneys.
